The best way to help your children is to help yourself. Healing is a long, sometimes painful process. Your children need you throughout the entire process. Here are some suggestions that can make a big difference in your progress toward helping yourself heal and in turn helping your children:
Build a support team
Don’t try to go through separation or divorce alone. Link up with a DivorceCare divorce recovery support group. It’s a place where you’ll find caring people who understand the issues you face. Look for a DivorceCare group that has the partnering DivorceCare for Kids recovery program for your children. Our Group Finder will help you locate a group meeting near you.

The Foundation for Healing
Your progress can be slowed or stopped if you don’t build on the right foundation. Our Foundation for Healing section has essential information to help you as a parent find the right footing.

About DivorceCare
Most people consider separation and divorce to be the most painful and stressful experience they’ve ever been through. It’s a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you’ve never faced before.
DivorceCare groups meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each DivorceCare session has two distinct elements:
- Video seminar
During the first 30–40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and divorce recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format and feature expert interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video. - Support group
After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members.
By interacting with others who are going through experiences similar to yours, you’ll learn there are people who understand what you are feeling and who will be able to offer you encouragement. Many participants say these support groups are the most helpful part of the program.
Start your family on the road to healing. Find a group for you and your children.
